This page explains all about the ways you can pay at the Electronic
Pet Shop, and how we keep it all safe and secure. We also have a privacy
policy, to guarantee you won't be spied on!
What
methods of payment can I use?
We offer a choice of two secure online payment systems, for your
convenience. Also for UK customers, we accept the more traditional forms of
payment, cheque and postal order.
-
Credit / Debit Card with 3D Secure Online Protection We accept all major credit and debit cards via
Nochex, a secure online payment system. Your details will be
encrypted before being transmitted, using the highest commercially available SSL 128-bit encryption key. In translation, that means no-one will have access
to your card details - not even us! We can even accept international
(outside of the UK) payments - all currencies are converted into GBP.
What is 3D Secure?
3D Secure is a new security feature designed
to combat online credit card fraud. It was developed by Visa and MasterCard,
and involves cardholders entering a password to validate their identity
whenever they make a purchase on a participating website - a bit like Chip
and PIN, but for online purchases. Find out more
here.
Please note:
transactions will appear as "Nochex" on your credit/debit card
statement. Cards accepted:

PayPal - secure online credit and debit card processing
PayPal is an instant, safe, easy way to send payments
online, without exposing your credit card number even to us! It's SSL
secured with 128 bit encryption (you'll see the secure padlock symbol at
the bottom of your browser window). This means your payment details go
flying through cyberspace as a long string of data so complex that not
even the most intelligent alien life form could decrypt it, and no-one at
the other end will have access to your details either. 50,000 online
shops use PayPal to accept payments, and more than 150 million people
worldwide have PayPal accounts. And the great thing is, you don't even have to
hold an account with PayPal to pay for your pets! When you get to the
PayPal stage of the checkout, you'll see this, just below a summary of
your order:

If you don't have a PayPal account, simply click "Continue" by
in the picture above. You'll then be taken to a screen where you can enter
your billing and payment details, no hassle or fuss. If you do already
have a PayPal account, simply sign in using box
pictured above, and you can pay quickly and easily using your existing
PayPal balance if you have one, or with any credit/debit cards that are
linked to your account. Once your PayPal payment has been completed,
you will receive an email from PayPal confirming the transaction. PayPal
payments are instant. Cards accepted:

Personal
Cheque (UK only)
As an alternative to online payment, we
accept Personal Cheques, in Pounds Sterling (GBP) only, from a UK bank. To
pay by cheque, simply put your order through the checkout, and on the
payment page, select "Personal Cheque". On the confirmation page, you'll
be given the address to send the cheque to. All cheques should be made out
to "Electronic Pets Ltd".
Please enclose a copy of the Order Details
(this can be printed off from your Account History page), or at least a
note of your order number. We wait
until cheques clear before shipping orders, which please note
can take up to 7 days. If we do not
receive the cheque within 7 days of the
order being put through the checkout, and we do not hear from you to
explain of any delay, the items will be put back into stock and your order
will be cancelled.
-
Crossed
Postal Orders (UK only)
We also accept payment via Crossed postal order. You can get a
postal order from any UK post office. We request them to be crossed for
security reasons - the name of the recipient is printed onto the postal
order, so only they can cash it, through their bank, whereas normal
uncrossed postal orders can be cashed by anyone at a post office. There is
no extra charge to cross
a postal order. To pay by Postal Order, simply put your
order through the checkout, and on the payment page, select "Postal Order". On the confirmation page, you'll be given the address to
send the postal order to. All postal orders should be made out to "Electronic
Pets Ltd". Please enclose a copy
of the Order Details (this can be printed off from your Account
History page), or at least a note of your order number. We wait until postal orders clear before shipping
orders, which please note can take up to 7 days.
If we do not receive a postal order within 7 days
of the order being put through the checkout, and we do not hear from you
to explain of any delay, the items will be put back into stock and your
order will be cancelled. For more about postal orders, click
here.

Security -
how do I know my payment is secure?
Click
here to
find out how your payment is protected when you choose to pay via
Credit/Debit Card with 3D Secure (Nochex).
When you make a payment using PayPal, you are
automatically transferred from the Electronic Pet Shop server onto PayPal's
SSL secured 128-bit encryption server. This means your payment details go
flying through cyberspace as a long string of data so complex that not even
the most intelligent alien life form could decrypt it, and no-one at the
other end will have access to your details either. You'll see the secure
padlock symbol at the bottom of your browser window.

Prevention scheme, click here.
When you send a Personal Cheque to us, be sure to make it out to "Electronic
Pets Ltd". That way, if anyone intercepts your cheque in the post, it will
be useless to them - only us at the Electronic Pet
Shop will be able to cash it. If your cheque gets lost in the
post, you can contact your bank and tell them the stub number and amount
sent (always ensure you write the details of each cheque you issue on the
stub in your cheque book), and they will cancel your cheque for you and stop
it being cashed. Once this has taken place, you can send us a replacement
cheque, safe in the knowledge we'll only cash that one.
If paying via
Postal Order, please ensure you ask for a Crossed
Postal Order at the Post Office. It doesn't cost more than an
uncrossed one, and means that as "Electronic Pets Ltd" will be printed as
the recipient's name on the postal order, if anyone should intercept it on
its way to us, they won't be able to do anything with it (very similar to
how a personal cheque works). Also, please ensure you keep all receipts and
confirmations that you receive from your Post Office when they issue you
with the postal order, as these will need to be produced if anything goes
wrong, e.g. your postal order gets lost or damaged.
